Hot shit
Today Four Year Strong announced they have signed to Decaydance Records. Yup Mr. Ashlee Simpson’s label. The same label that brought you Cobra Starship and Panic! at the Disco…
BOOO!!!
I am so sick of bands that I like becoming popular. Yes it is wrong of me to be selfish. I wish them all the success in the world, but do you really need to sign to a label that caters to 12 year olds? When you are the same age as the band, but you are easily the oldest person at the show its a bummer. I recently saw Four Year Strong in concert with Vanna and Every Time I Die. You think that is going to ever happen again kiddies? Fuck NO! While I will still support them by listening to their music, you can count me out on ever seeing FYS live ever again. I don’t like teenagers making out ontop of me or Dads threating to kick ass when I go to shows.
This is a great move by Decaydance. FSY will be popular. Is it possible for a band to be even more pop-friendly than Decaydance’s founders band (Fall Out Boy FYI)? I think so. If there is one positive out of all this it is you can download their album for free (click the pic).
I’ve realized that I have only shown one side of my musical taste so far. While I like to rock out, my true love is good old-fashioned soul music. Most people know Joe Cocker as the guy who sung the Wonder Years theme song (I know thats how I was introduced). He is in fact one of the greatest voices of all time. His voice got destroyed after years of hard drinking and drugs, but thank god for recordings. Below is a performance from 1970. Enjoy!
So Ive slacked off with updating. Oh well. Just like I love Weezer, I love Saves the Day. Chris Conley is my hero. Here is a great video of him playing Anywhere With You acoustic.
I love Weezer.
Rivers Cuomo just released a bunch of b-sides/demos and Lover in the Snow is amazing.

Whenever I need to just have some fun and rock out I put on Refused. One of the best songs to do said rocking is Deadly Rhythm. I believe this is the same video on their DVD Refused Are Fucking Dead.
Being back in NH for Christmas allows me the opportunity to watch an unhealthy amount of TV. Today I watched the Spike Lee Joint, Crooklyn. While the movie is great the soundtrack is amazing. If you are looking for an introduction to great 70’s music pick yourself a copy of this soundtrack (two separate volumes).

Even though they don’t have a singer Hit The Lights released a cover of 1984’s The Warrior by Scandal.
I wanted to keep on top of this blog (unlike my now deleted sports blog). While I’m busy writing my picks for Top Ten Albums and Songs here is Coconut by Saves the Day. The song is great. It was on the UK release of In Reverie, but to be honest the original isn’t as good as the video below. Not to worry. You can go to this great site and download the .mp3 of it here (don’t forget to right-click). Enjoy!
